Kevin Cheveldayoff has become the NHL's longest-tenured general manager following Doug Armstrong's resignation from the St. Louis Blues as of July 1. Cheveldayoff has been at the helm of the Winnipeg Jets since June 8, 2011, overseeing the franchise's transition from Atlanta to Winnipeg.
Under his leadership, the Jets have compiled a regular season record of 610 wins, 438 losses, and 111 overtime losses, ranking 11th in the NHL since he took over. The Jets have made the playoffs in seven of the last nine seasons, with significant achievements including advancing to the Western Conference Final in 2018 and winning the Presidents Trophy during the 2024-25 season.
Cheveldayoff's success is attributed to his ability to draft and develop core players like Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck, and Josh Morrissey, while also fostering a culture that encourages player retention in Winnipeg.
His tenure reflects a commitment to building a competitive team, and with Armstrong's departure, Cheveldayoff's leadership will be crucial as the franchise continues to seek its first Stanley Cup.
