Jonathan Toews has provided an update on his future with the Winnipeg Jets following his comeback season in the NHL. After a two-year absence due to health issues, including Chronic Immune Response Syndrome and long COVID, Toews expressed uncertainty about whether he will continue playing next season.
He emphasized that if he does decide to play, he would prioritize rejoining the Jets, stating, 'A hundred percent, if they'll have me. I've really loved being part of this locker room this year.' In the recently concluded season, Toews played all 82 games, tallying 11 goals and 18 assists for a total of 29 points, while also providing valuable leadership to a young roster.
His return coincided with a challenging season for the Jets, who failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing with a record of 35 wins, 51 losses, and 2 overtime losses. Toews, who played on a one-year, $2 million contract, will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
As he reflects on his performance and experiences from the past year, Toews is expected to take the coming weeks to consider his options moving forward. Regardless of his decision, his legacy as a champion and future Hall of Famer is already secured, having led the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup titles during his illustrious career.
