Washington Capitals general manager Chris Patrick has confirmed that the team is not planning further roster changes after a busy offseason. According to Russian Machine Never Breaks, the Capitals have added significant talent, including Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch, while also re-signing captain Alex Ovechkin, leaving them with only $975,000 in cap space.
Patrick noted, 'Yeah, we're pretty much strapped...If we're doing anything, we're probably sending a body out to create space.' As the Capitals prepare for training camp, they will need to finalize their roster, which could lead to potential trades for non-waiver-exempt players like Ivan Miroshnichenko and Anthony Beauvillier.
Meanwhile, Ovechkin expressed confidence in the team's potential for the upcoming season, stating, 'I think on paper, you can see our team is one of the best teams.' He emphasized his excitement for the upcoming season, aiming for another Stanley Cup victory.
Additionally, Stars and Sticks discussed the Capitals' salary cap management, highlighting the importance of value contracts, with Aliaksei Protas being noted for his impressive production relative to his salary.
As the team gears up for the 2026-27 season, they seem poised for a competitive campaign, although they face challenges from strong Eastern Conference rivals.
