The Vegas Golden Knights have officially appointed Ryan Craig as their new head coach, marking a significant shift in leadership following their recent loss in the Stanley Cup Final. General Manager Kelly McCrimmon stated that the decision to move forward with Craig, who has been with the organization since its inception, reflects the team's strategy to build from within.
Craig, who previously coached the Henderson Silver Knights, signed a three-year deal and is set to lead the team into its tenth year. This coaching change comes after John Tortorella, who expressed a desire to return, was informed of the decision on Monday, just a day after the Golden Knights lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 6.
Additionally, the team is managing significant injury challenges, including a broken wrist for forward William Karlsson, who will require surgery, as well as injuries affecting key players like captain Mark Stone and defenseman Noah Hanifin.
McCrimmon also acknowledged the Golden Knights' evolving reputation in the league, suggesting that jealousy stems from their success since joining the NHL as an expansion team, having made the playoffs in all but one season and winning the Stanley Cup in 2023.
