The Vegas Golden Knights have announced that they will not be retaining head coach John Tortorella after a disappointing Stanley Cup Final run, where they fell two wins short of the championship. Tortorella, who replaced Bruce Cassidy on March 29, led the team to the Final but will not return for the next season, as confirmed by general manager Kelly McCrimmon.
The team expressed gratitude for Tortorella's impact, acknowledging the boost he provided during a pivotal moment in the season. In the aftermath of the loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, players like Carter Hart and Mark Stone conveyed a sense of resilience and motivation to come back stronger next season, indicating that the defeat will fuel their drive for another title.
Additionally, defenseman Rasmus Andersson, a key player acquired mid-season, expressed his desire to re-sign with the team, reflecting the ongoing roster dynamics as the team prepares for the offseason.
Despite criticism and a reputation as one of the more disliked teams in the NHL, star center Jack Eichel emphasized that players see the Golden Knights as a desirable organization to be part of, highlighting their competitive spirit and commitment to winning.
As the Golden Knights look ahead, they remain focused on building a strong strategy for future success, aiming to use their recent experiences as motivation for the upcoming season.
