Following the appointment of Manny Malhotra as the new head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, the team is reportedly looking to expand its coaching staff. Elliotte Friedman shared on Sportsnet's 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that one name of interest for the Canucks is Jessica Campbell, the former assistant coach of the Seattle Kraken.
Campbell was appointed as an assistant coach for the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds in 2022, helping the team reach two consecutive Calder Cup Finals. In July 2024, she advanced to the position of assistant coach for the Kraken when Dan Bylsma took over as head coach.
After her contract expired in April 2026, Campbell departed the Kraken to explore other coaching opportunities. The report indicates that there could be a potential trade involving Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin, who has connections to Kraken GM Jason Botterill.
Additionally, the Canucks will need to fill the head coaching position for the Abbotsford Canucks following Malhotra's promotion. With only two NHL head-coaching vacancies currently available, the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs, Campbell's addition could bring valuable insights and strategies to the Canucks' coaching team.
This development follows the recent firing of the inaugural head coach of the Vancouver Goldeneyes, highlighting the ongoing changes across coaching staffs in the league.
