Big things come in small packages, especially for Seattle Kraken prospects Jagger Firkus and Tyson Jugnauth, who are making waves in the AHL with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Firkus, drafted 35th overall in 2022, has added 17 pounds since his draft weight, now at 170 pounds, and is tied for fourth in the AHL with 158 shots on goal.
Jugnauth, picked 100th overall, has also bulked up to add strength against larger opponents in the AHL, and his impressive performance has made him the highest-scoring rookie defenseman in the league. Both players were recognized as they were voted into the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic, with Firkus achieving a perfect score in the Accuracy Shooting event.
Jugnauth's journey included a challenging NCAA season at the University of Wisconsin, followed by a successful stint with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks, where he earned the Bill Hunter Trophy as the top defenseman.
Their development is crucial for the Kraken as they look to build depth for the future, showcasing their talent and hockey IQ despite initial concerns about their size. The Kraken organization is optimistic about the potential these young players hold, as they continue to excel in their professional careers.
