The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed restricted free agent forward Hendrix Lapierre to a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.3 million. Lapierre, who was previously with the Washington Capitals, was acquired on June 25 in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2028.
Last season, he played 74 games, achieving a career-high of 16 points, and he brings versatility as he has played both center and winger positions. Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas emphasized the importance of speed in their roster as they continue to build their team.
Meanwhile, the recent development camp showcased several promising prospects, including Jordan Charron, who expressed excitement about returning after a strong previous season. Peyton Kettles, a defensive prospect, has recovered from a shoulder injury that limited his play last season, now looking to make an impact as he embraces his physical style of play.
Following a busy free agency, the Penguins have reassessed their depth chart, maintaining key players like Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell, and Bryan Rust while evaluating new acquisitions and their potential roles in the upcoming season.
