The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed goaltender Aleksei Kolosov to a one-year contract extension worth $850,000, as confirmed by Deadspin and Daily Faceoff. Kolosov, who was a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, spent most of last season with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, finishing with a 2.98 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage over 38 games.
Despite struggling in his limited NHL appearances, the Flyers demonstrate a commitment to developing young talent in net. Meanwhile, general manager Danny Briere acknowledged the continuing need for a top-tier center, highlighting the promising development of prospects Trevor Zegras and Denver Barkey, which could ease the burden of finding a reliable player in that role.
The Flyers are also reflecting on a challenging playoff exit where injuries plagued their performance, resulting in a sweep by the Carolina Hurricanes. This postseason marked the eighth time the Flyers have been swept in franchise history.
As the team prepares for the offseason, Briere and head coach Rick Tocchet discussed their vision for the future, noting the importance of the young core and their projected $38 million in cap space to make necessary improvements.
