The Philadelphia Flyers have begun their offseason moves aimed at addressing team weaknesses, as reported by Broad Street Hockey. General Manager Danny Briere made the first trade of the summer, acquiring goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2026 third-round draft pick.
Woll, who was drafted 62nd overall by the Leafs in 2016, has played 117 NHL games with a 2.93 goals-against average. This move has sparked optimism among fans and analysts, who are hopeful Woll could develop into a starting goaltender for the Flyers.
Briere has confirmed that he plans to keep the team's first-round draft pick, further indicating a focus on building a competitive roster through both trades and the upcoming draft. According to the Inquirer, AGM Bret Flahr provided insights into the team's draft strategy, hinting at a commitment to making selections rather than trading them away.
The Flyers are clearly in the early stages of reshaping their lineup, with potential for more moves throughout the offseason as they look to improve their standings in the league.
