The Montreal Canadiens had several players welcoming new additions to their families this summer. Among them, goaltender Samuel Montembeault and his wife Daryanne welcomed their daughter on July 22, as shared on Daryanne's Instagram account.
However, Montembeault's future with the Canadiens remains uncertain following a tough season. He has one year left on his contract, but his performance has raised questions about his position on the team.
With Jakub Dobes emerging as a frontrunner for the starting role and Jacob Fowler showing NHL potential, Montembeault may face competition at training camp. General Manager Kent Hughes has indicated that he prefers not to have a goalie trio, which complicates Montembeault's situation further.
The Canadiens may consider waiving him to send him to the AHL, but Hughes is known for not wanting to lose assets for nothing. The team previously faced a similar situation with goaltender Cayden Primeau, who was eventually traded for a seventh-round pick.
Montembeault's current trade value is likely at an all-time low, leaving the Canadiens in a difficult position if they believe Fowler's development is best served in the NHL. While Montembeault navigates his new role as a father, his professional future remains in limbo, with only Noah Dobson and his wife left among Canadiens players expecting a child.
