The Chicago Blackhawks are facing significant developments as the 2026-27 NHL season approaches. According to NBC Chicago, former Blackhawks defenseman Chris Chelios has indicated that Patrick Kane is considering a return to Chicago, with his decision reportedly narrowing down to the Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres.
Kane, who turns 38 in November, has a storied history with the Blackhawks, having won three Stanley Cups and ranking among the franchise's all-time leaders in scoring. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks will kick off their season with a challenging road trip starting on September 29th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
This will be followed by games against the Utah Mammoth and Buffalo Sabres before returning home to host the St. Louis Blues on October 6th. The Blackhawks have not started a season at home for nine consecutive years, which raises concerns about their ability to compete effectively right out of the gate, especially without star player Connor Bedard, who will be out for approximately four months due to injury.
The Hockey Writers highlight key players to watch, including center Anton Frondell, who is expected to play a crucial role in the absence of Bedard, as the team looks to develop its younger talent amidst a tough schedule.
The upcoming season presents both challenges and opportunities as the Blackhawks navigate roster changes and aim to build for the future.
