Nikishin Seeks Over $8M in Contract Talks

The Carolina Hurricanes are currently facing contract negotiation challenges with restricted free agent defenseman Alexander Nikishin. According to Yahoo Sports NHL, Nikishin is reportedly seeking a significant salary increase, with the defenseman himself hinting at wanting north of eight million dollars per year on his next deal.

In an exclusive interview, Nikishin stated, 'My agents handle that. I don't push the situation much, they take care of everything themselves. If something concrete comes up, they'll call me. Right now there's nothing concrete about the contract.' Nikishin, who is 24 years old, had a productive first NHL season with 11 goals and 33 points while also gaining valuable playoff experience, contributing to the Hurricanes’ championship win.

The Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly interested in Nikishin as they look to improve their defense, with the team having the cap space to potentially make a significant offer. The Flyers' situation is compounded by their previous moves, which include an offer sheet for Leo Carlsson and interest in Zach Werenski, indicating their willingness to spend to enhance their roster.
