The Buffalo Sabres are currently eyeing major trades to enhance their roster, particularly targeting Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat, who scored 41 goals last season. According to Yahoo Sports, the Sabres traded Alex Tuch to the Washington Capitals and could seek a top-six winger, with DeBrincat as a prime candidate if the Red Wings fall out of playoff contention.
Additionally, the Sabres are exploring free agent options, with Patrick Kane highlighted as a potential addition, having scored 16 goals and 57 points last season with the Detroit Red Wings. Other free agent targets include Anthony Mantha and Vladimir Tarasenko, both of whom could bolster the Sabres' offensive lineup.
Meanwhile, discussions with the Winnipeg Jets regarding goalie Connor Hellebuyck reportedly fell through, as the Sabres were unwilling to meet the Jets' demands during the trade talks. Former Sabres goaltender Martin Biron indicated that the Jets may have overplayed their hand, complicating the possibility of a future deal, especially after the Sabres selected defenseman Daxon Rudolph with the fourth overall pick in the draft instead of pursuing Hellebuyck.
The team has also seen significant roster changes, with Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, impacting the team's depth heading into the season.
