Jonathan Toews, a three-time Stanley Cup champion, has announced his retirement after a season with the Winnipeg Jets. Toews, who played for the Jets this past season, scored 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points in 82 games.
His illustrious career began when he was drafted third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2006, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to three Stanley Cups between 2010 and 2015. Meanwhile, the Jets have re-signed goaltender Isaac Poulter to a one-year contract extension, ensuring depth in their goaltending lineup as he showcased promise during his time with the ECHL's Norfolk Admirals.
Poulter achieved a 25-17-1 record with a 2.76 goals-against average this past season. Additionally, the Jets are preparing for the 2026 NHL Draft with seven selections, starting with the eighth overall pick, their highest since selecting Patrik Laine second overall in 2016.
This draft presents an opportunity for the Jets to enhance their roster and address key needs. Furthermore, General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is expected to receive a contract extension, solidifying his long-term role within the organization after leading the Jets since their return in 2011, during which time they have made the playoffs eight times.
This extension reflects the team's commitment to Cheveldayoff's vision for the franchise.
