Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff addressed recent speculation regarding Shane Doan's potential role within the organization following Doan's visit to Winnipeg. Doan, who was selected seventh overall in the 1995 NHL Draft by the Jets, played his rookie season in Winnipeg before the franchise relocated to Phoenix, where he became the face of the Coyotes.
After his retirement, Doan took on various roles, including a front-office position with the Coyotes and most recently as a special advisor to the general manager in Toronto until May. Reports emerged in late May that Doan had been seen in Winnipeg, meeting with Jets co-owner Mark Chipman, touring the Canada Life Centre, and discussing hockey matters.
When Cheveldayoff was asked about the visit, he remarked, 'Shane came to town several weeks ago and had a visit. But I'm not sure there's anything more to that than just a visit.' These comments mark the first public response from the Jets regarding Doan's visit, indicating a downplaying of any speculation surrounding a front-office position.
