Ivan Miroshnichenko has been a healthy scratch for all six Washington Capitals games since his recall on March 6. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery expressed disappointment over Miroshnichenko's prolonged absence from the lineup, stating, 22I just feel like, with the health of our forward group, I would have liked to have seen him in the amount of time that he's been up.
I dont like a guy sitting this long, especially being a young player. 22 Miroshnichenko, a 22-year-old winger and the team's 2022 first-round pick, has yet to record a point in four games this season but has 31 points in 38 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears.
Despite his lack of game time, Miroshnichenko signed a two-year contract extension with the Capitals on Halloween and is eligible to play in this year's Calder Cup Playoffs. Carbery noted that Miroshnichenko's opportunity to play is on the horizon, although he could still return to Hershey soon, as he remains on the Bears' roster.
It remains puzzling why a healthy player like Miroshnichenko has not seen action, especially since the NHL's 23-man roster limit is no longer in effect after the trade deadline.
