The Vegas Golden Knights are making crucial adjustments ahead of their pivotal Game 4 against the Utah Mammoth, as they seek to overcome a 2-1 series deficit. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, head coach John Tortorella is implementing new forward lines and power-play units, including moving Mitch Marner to the second power-play unit and inserting Shea Theodore to quarterback the top unit.
Tortorella expressed dissatisfaction with the team's performance on special teams, stating, "We've lost the special teams battle the last three games here." The Golden Knights have gone 2-for-9 on the power play in the series, and Tortorella emphasized the need to regain offensive momentum.
The team remains confident despite the recent struggles, with Tortorella asserting there is no panic within the locker room. Deadspin reports that the Knights secured a 4-2 win in Game 1 but lost Games 2 and 3, with Game 3 marking a historic win for the Mammoth despite being outshot 32-12.
Ahead of Game 4, the Golden Knights called up Trevor Connelly and Braeden Bowman from the Henderson Silver Knights, aiming to enhance their depth and performance on the ice. In contrast, the Mammoth's success has been bolstered by former Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt, who is providing veteran leadership to the young team.
Schmidt, who won the Stanley Cup last year, has quickly adapted to his new role and is a key player as the Mammoth strive for a series victory against his former team.
