The Vancouver Canucks have made significant roster changes, acquiring veteran forward Brendan Gallagher from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for future considerations. Gallagher, a 34-year-old, represents a homecoming as he grew up in suburban Vancouver and played for the WHL's Vancouver Giants.
Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson highlighted Gallagher's leadership and experience, stating that he will help set a standard for younger players during the team's rebuilding phase. Meanwhile, the Canucks traded forward Nils Hoglander to the Nashville Predators for a third-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft.
Johnson indicated that this trade aligns with the team's strategy to reshape the roster and accumulate assets for the future. The Canucks also announced they will not extend qualifying offers to five restricted free agents, including forwards Jayden Grubbe and Nils Aman, signaling a further commitment to their rebuilding efforts.
Gallagher expressed excitement about his new role with the Canucks, emphasizing his desire to assist in developing younger players while transitioning into a leadership position on the team.
