The Vancouver Canucks have fired head coach Adam Foote after just one season, along with three assistant coaches, following a disappointing season where they finished last in the NHL with a record of 25-49-8.
General manager Ryan Johnson stated that the decision was made as the team looks to rebuild and establish a new direction, emphasizing the need for new coaching voices to improve the environment and culture within the organization.
The Canucks are now focusing on finding a new head coach, with Manny Malhotra, the current head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks, emerging as a strong candidate. Johnson expressed a commitment to speaking with Malhotra first before considering other candidates.
Meanwhile, assistant general managers Cammi Granato and Emilie Castonguay will remain with the organization during this transitional period, indicating a desire for continuity amid significant changes in the coaching staff.
This off-season is being described as one of the most critical in the franchise's history as the Canucks aim to address key roster questions and establish a clear path forward after a tumultuous year.
