The Vancouver Canucks have officially been eliminated from playoff contention for the 2026 NHL season, marking a disappointing end to their hopes for postseason play. According to Yahoo Sports, the Canucks were the first team to see the "E" next to their name in the NHL standings after accumulating only 50 points over 69 games.
This marks the second consecutive year the Canucks have missed the playoffs and continues a troubling trend since the 2014-15 season, where they have only qualified for the postseason three times, with their last playoff appearance in 2024.
Canucks Army reports that the team is now projected to finish 32nd in the league, giving them the best odds at the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, with the likelihood of landing the third overall pick being significantly higher.
Historically, the Canucks have never selected first overall in the draft despite being in position to do so on multiple occasions. As the Canucks look ahead to the offseason, significant questions remain regarding their future direction and roster decisions, especially considering their prolonged struggles in recent seasons.
