The Vancouver Canucks are facing significant decisions following their hiring of Manny Malhotra as head coach. With the team finishing with the worst record in the NHL last season but only securing the third overall pick in the upcoming draft, discussions have intensified around the potential selection of Caleb Malhotra, Manny's son, who is viewed as one of the top center prospects available.
According to Daily Faceoff, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton debated whether the Canucks’ decision to hire Manny would influence the likelihood of drafting Caleb, noting potential pressures on both the player and the organization.
They highlighted that while it could create a unique storyline, it could also complicate team dynamics, with risks of favoritism or undue pressure on Caleb if selected. In a press conference, Manny Malhotra reassured that the father-son relationship would not influence the team's decision-making process, emphasizing that he remains a dad first and a coach second.
He acknowledged that there are pros and cons to the situation but was not overly concerned about what might happen if Caleb was drafted by the Canucks. Meanwhile, Caleb had an impressive draft year, scoring 29 goals and 55 assists in 67 games, which has positioned him as a strong candidate for the third overall pick, as reported by Canucks Army.
