The Vancouver Canucks introduced Ryan Johnson as their new General Manager and Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents of hockey operations. This marks a significant shift for the franchise as they focus on improving team culture and environment.
In a press conference, Johnson emphasized the importance of creating a positive atmosphere and stated that the priority is not rushing through the rebuild. He highlighted the need for players to embody professionalism and quality teamwork.
Johnson mentioned that players would need to decide who they want to be as both individuals and teammates. The Sedins, who are the top two scorers in Canucks history, stressed that team culture is crucial for winning and sustainability.
They expressed optimism about the current roster, noting positive developments in the last part of the previous season. Johnson, who played for the Canucks from 2008 to 2010, previously served as the GM of the AHL affiliate, leading them to a Calder Cup victory.
He is keen to help players like Elias Pettersson focus on their preparation, aiming to enhance overall performance and teamwork. The Sedins were chosen by owner Francesco Aquilini after Jim Rutherford announced his resignation, and they played a key role in selecting Johnson over other candidates, including Evan Gold from the Boston Bruins.
