The NHL trade market is buzzing, and Elias Pettersson's name is emerging as a potential candidate for a blockbuster deal. According to Daily Faceoff, managing editor Matt Larkin identified Pettersson as a sleeper in trade discussions, highlighting his $11.6 million contract and ability to still be a potent offensive player, despite concerns about his speed.
Larkin emphasized that Pettersson is not far removed from being a 100-point player and expressed curiosity about how he might perform on a different team. Meanwhile, Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson clarified that he has not approached any veterans about waiving trade protections, including Pettersson, as he navigates the hectic trade climate leading up to the NHL draft.
Johnson reiterated that while he is in discussions with other teams, he aims for a rebuild that does not involve a fire sale of veteran players, suggesting that Pettersson and others remain part of the team's future plans for now, despite the ongoing speculation.
