The coaching search continues for the Los Angeles Kings, with general manager Ken Holland evaluating multiple potential candidates for the franchise's next head coach. Recent reports suggest that the Kings may show interest in younger coaching options, making Abbotsford Canucks AHL head coach Manny Malhotra a notable candidate.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned on the Canucks Central podcast that both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Kings could be interested in Malhotra this offseason. This follows comments from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, indicating that Los Angeles may pursue a younger head coach.
Other candidates reportedly under consideration include former LA interim head coach DJ Smith and former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy. Malhotra, at 45 years old, has built a strong reputation for player development at both the NHL and AHL levels, which could appeal to a Kings organization focused on maximizing the growth of its younger core.
His familiarity with the Pacific Division, gained through several years with the Vancouver Canucks organization, adds to his candidacy. Malhotra's recent success in leading Abbotsford to a Calder Cup Championship in 2024 further strengthens his resume as a legitimate coaching candidate for the Kings.
