Kudryavtsev ranks high in Canucks prospects

Canucks Army's top 20 Vancouver Canucks summer prospect rankings have placed Kirill Kudryavtsev at the fifth spot. Kudryavtsev, who is 22 years old, plays defense for the Abbotsford Canucks, stands at five feet eleven inches tall, weighs 201 pounds, and shoots left.

He was drafted in the seventh round, 208th overall, in 2022, and maintained his ranking from the previous summer despite the addition of new prospects during the 2026 NHL Draft. In his rookie season as a professional, Kudryavtsev played in 65 games, scoring five goals and providing 21 assists for a total of 26 points.

After being a healthy scratch early in the Calder Cup Championship run, he regained his place in the lineup and increased his minutes as the playoffs progressed. Kudryavtsev's performance last season saw him logging top-pairing minutes and playing a key role on both the power play and penalty kill units.

Although he faced injuries, he managed to secure 20 points in 44 games, which earned him another chance in the NHL, where he recorded two assists in his first two games. Recognized as one of the best developmental stories in the organization, Kudryavtsev's work ethic and reliability have made him a valuable asset.

His ability to contribute in all facets of the game, despite his height, is complemented by his strong lower body and active stick, which he uses effectively to disrupt plays. While his offensive skills are not elite, he remains a solid distributor from the point.

Kudryavtsev is projected to be a reliable third-pair option, with a potential ceiling as a fourth defenseman, though competition may limit his growth within the Canucks' current roster. His estimated time of arrival in the NHL is promising as he has become a prime call-up option due to his steady performance and Malhotra's trust in him.

This season, he has a better chance of securing a spot on the NHL roster, particularly under the new leadership of head coach Manny Malhotra, who has shown confidence in Kudryavtsev over other players in critical situations.
