Elliotte Friedman reported on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that the Vancouver Canucks are making progress in their search for a new head coach, with Manny Malhotra emerging as the frontrunner for the position.
This follows the dismissal of Adam Foote and his coaching staff by new General Manager Ryan Johnson. Malhotra, currently the head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks, led the team to its best season in franchise history, achieving a 44-24-2-2 record and winning the Calder Cup.
Despite a more challenging second season, where Abbotsford finished ninth in the Pacific Division, Malhotra maintained a positive atmosphere within the team. Friedman emphasized that there appears to be minimal search for the next head coach, suggesting that Malhotra's appointment is likely imminent.
The situation reflects a broader transition within the Canucks organization as they seek new leadership.
