The Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights is witnessing significant viewership disparities between the U.S. and Canada. In the U.S., the series has drawn impressive numbers, with Game 2 being the most viewed Stanley Cup final Game 2 since 2015, reaching 4.725 million viewers, a 93 percent increase from the previous year, according to The Hockey News.

Conversely, Canada is experiencing a sharp decline in viewership, with Game 1 attracting 1.3 million viewers, tapering to 1.1 million for Game 2, and slightly rebounding to over 1.5 million for Game 3.

This contrasts sharply with previous finals, such as the 2024 matchup which averaged 4.2 million viewers. The lack of Canadian representation in the final is a major factor, as evidenced by Bill Brioux's observation that without a Canadian team, many fans are tuning out.

Historical data shows that finals featuring Canadian teams, such as the 2011 series between the Bruins and Canucks, consistently draw higher viewership. In Canada, even less popular sports like baseball are outpacing hockey viewership, with the Toronto Blue Jays drawing more viewers than the Stanley Cup final game.

This trend indicates that the absence of marquee players and teams significantly impacts Canadian fan engagement, as the current series lacks star power like Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby, further contributing to the declining interest in this year's Stanley Cup Final.
