The St. Louis Blues have made key moves in free agency, signing forward Dillon Dube to a one-year contract worth $850,000. Dube, who played 58 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds last season, aims to make an impact in the NHL after being acquitted in the 2018 Canada world junior sexual assault case, according to Yahoo Sports.
General Manager Alexander Steen expressed confidence in Dube's potential to contribute positively to the team. Additionally, the Blues signed Ross Johnston to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $2 million, enhancing their forward depth with a physical presence.
Johnston, a 6-foot-5 winger, had career highs in points and hits last season with the Anaheim Ducks. Steen's first day as GM also saw the re-signing of Jonatan Berggren on a one-year deal, valued at $2 million, as the team targets improvements for the upcoming season.
However, the Blues missed out on elite defenseman Zach Werenski, who opted for a trade to another Central Division rival, highlighting the competitive nature of the NHL's free agency. On another note, the Blues' front office has seen changes with several former players, including Keith Tkachuk and Chris Thorburn, taking on new roles to influence team culture and strategy.
This combination of roster moves and management changes indicates the Blues are preparing for a significant shift as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
