Alexander Steen will officially take over as the St. Louis Blues' general manager on July 1, succeeding Doug Armstrong, who will transition to president of hockey operations through 2029. Armstrong expressed confidence in Steen, stating, "I think Alex is hungry.
He's ready," and highlighted that Steen has essentially been acting as GM since the latter part of the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, winger Jordan Kyrou recently underwent knee surgery and is expected to be ready for training camp for the 2026-27 season after a disappointing performance last season where he scored only 36 points.
The Blues' core players have come under scrutiny following the team's underwhelming showing in 2025-26, prompting trade discussions involving Pavel Buchnevich, Jordan Kyrou, and Robert Thomas, who had a better end-of-season performance.
Concerns have also been raised by Blues management regarding their late-season success, which could negatively affect their draft position. The team finished strong, going 17-5-3 in the final 25 games, which moved them out of lottery contention, a point of contention among fans divided between wanting to 'Embrace the Tank' or support competitive play.
Amidst these challenges, rookie Jimmy Snuggerud emerged as a bright spot, finishing his first full season with 51 points, solidifying his place as a key player for the Blues moving forward.
