The Seattle Kraken have made significant moves in recent days, including signing forwards Lleyton Roed and J.R. Avon to one-year, two-way contract extensions. According to Daily Faceoff, both players will have NHL cap hits of $850,000 for the 2026-27 season, signaling the team's commitment to developing talent from their AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Roed has been a solid secondary scorer, while Avon had a career year with 10 goals and 14 assists last season. In addition to these extensions, the Kraken extended qualifying offers to four players, including Jacob Melanson and Mackie Samoskevich, as reported by Yahoo Sports NHL.
This move ensures the team retains key players and strengthens its roster depth. Furthermore, the Kraken announced their development camp roster for 2026, comprising 28 players, with a focus on nurturing young talent, and former player Justin Schultz acting as a development consultant.
Meanwhile, the Kraken continue to face challenges in acquiring elite talent, notably missing out on Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson, who declined a substantial eight-year contract offer worth $15 million per year, reflecting the ongoing narrative regarding the franchise's struggles to attract top players, as discussed by Sound of Hockey.
