The Seattle Kraken concluded their season with a disappointing 2-0 defeat against the Colorado Avalanche on April 16, 2026. This loss marked the Kraken's fourth missed playoff opportunity in just five seasons, finishing with a record of 34 wins, 37 losses, and 11 overtime losses for a total of 79 points.

Throughout the season, the Kraken struggled significantly, particularly after the Olympic break, going just 5-14-2 in the final stretch, including a recent 4-1 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights. Kraken captain Jordan Eberle pointed to multiple issues, including a stagnant power play and an ineffective penalty kill, stating that the team just hadn’t played the detailed hockey required to compete at a high level.

The Avalanche, meanwhile, celebrated their win, which helped them break their franchise's single-season points record with 121 points, clinching the Presidents' Trophy. Nick Blankenburg scored the decisive goal for Colorado in the second period, while Scott Wedgewood recorded his fourth shutout of the season.

The Kraken's struggles this season have led to significant changes within the organization, including the announcement that President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis will step down at the end of the season.

This disappointing finish underscores the need for the Kraken to regroup and reassess their strategy heading into the next season.
