San Jose Sharks prospect Haoxi (Simon) Wang is making headlines as he represents China in the World Championships, Division I Group B. This is Wang's first major international tournament, where he is playing against teams like Estonia, Netherlands, Romania, South Korea, and Spain, with the goal of moving up to the D1A World Championships.
Selected 33rd overall by the Sharks in 2025, the 6-foot-6 defenseman had a successful season in the OHL, scoring six goals and 26 points in 57 games. In his tournament opener, Wang scored a point in a 7-4 loss to South Korea but helped secure an overtime victory against Romania.
Meanwhile, Joe Will, the San Jose Barracuda's general manager and Sharks assistant general manager, discussed the future of prospects, including Eric Pohlkamp and Leo Sahlin Wallenius, following the Barracuda's early playoff exit.
Will highlighted the need for development and indicated that the Sharks are focused on nurturing their young talent. In other news, former Sharks forward Klim Kostin has signed a contract extension with CSKA Moscow, keeping him in the KHL through the 2028-29 season, after a brief stint in the NHL.
Lastly, the Sharks concluded their season with a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, a game that underscored the challenges faced throughout the year and sets the stage for offseason discussions regarding roster changes.
