The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed four restricted free agents, including forward Egor Chinakhov, as they prepare for the upcoming season. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Chinakhov signed a three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $6.25 million, which includes a modified no-trade clause in the final year.
Chinakhov had a strong season with the Penguins, scoring 36 points in 43 games after being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Alongside Chinakhov, the Penguins also secured one-year contracts for forward David Gustafsson and goaltender Arturs Silovs, as well as a two-year deal for goaltender Joel Blomqvist.
Gustafsson's contract carries a cap hit of $850,000, while Silovs is set to earn $2.8 million in his one-year deal. Blomqvist's two-year deal totals $875,000 per year. Chinakhov's new contract effectively triples his previous salary, indicating the Penguins' commitment to keeping core players and managing their salary cap effectively.
Following these signings, only forward Nick Robertson remains unsigned, having filed for arbitration, while Ville Koivunen and defenseman Alex Alexeyev are also pending contracts. The Penguins have approximately $16.9 million in projected salary cap space after these transactions, as reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and PensBurgh.
