Penguins Beat Bears in Preseason Opener

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins opened their preseason with a 6-3 victory against the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center in Hershey on Sunday. Penguins forward Avery Hayes left the game in the first period due to an undisclosed injury, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach Kirk MacDonald described Hayes' status as precautionary and not serious.

Forward Brayden Edwards led the scoring with a goal and two assists, while forward Mikhail Ilyin contributed a goal and an assist. Additional goals came from forwards Hugh McGing, Daniel Russell, and Tiernan Shoudy, as well as defenseman Phil Kemp.

Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 11 saves on 14 shots in the win. The Penguins will conclude their brief preseason with a road contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
