Matvei Michkov, star forward for the Philadelphia Flyers, has been nominated for the prestigious 2026 Stroganov Prize by his hometown of Perm, Russia. This award is given annually to individuals who bring honor to the Perm Krai region through their achievements.
Michkov, at just 21 years old, has had a remarkable impact in his two seasons with the Flyers, recording 114 points in 161 games. His achievements include being recognized as the NHL's best rookie of the month twice and becoming the most productive rookie for the Flyers in the 21st century.
In the 2025-2026 season, he reached 73 points, marking the best performance for a Flyers rookie since 1995. The Perm community has highlighted Michkov as a significant role model for young athletes and a representative of Russian sports on the world stage.
His nomination reflects not only his talent but also the Flyers' commitment to developing young players in the organization. This recognition sets a positive tone for the future of the Flyers, with Michkov being part of a promising group of young talents, including Porter Martone, Denver Barkey, Jack Berglund, and Jett Luchanko.
As Michkov continues to shine, the Flyers' future looks increasingly bright.
