Maksim Sokolovskii, the Philadelphia Flyers' first-round pick from the 2026 NHL Draft, has made a striking impression during the team's development camp held in Voorhees, New Jersey. Standing at a towering 6'7" and weighing around 240 pounds, Sokolovskii's size is immediately noticeable, drawing attention from fans and fellow prospects alike.
Flyers director of player development, Riley Armstrong, highlighted Sokolovskii's surprisingly fluid skating ability for someone of his stature, noting that he displayed good puck retrieval skills and foot deception during drills, which adds to the excitement about his potential upside.
His fellow prospects, including Denver Barkey and Jack Nesbitt, echoed similar sentiments, praising his physicality and raw skill on the ice. Barkey remarked on Sokolovskii's impressive mobility, stating, "I think he's got a lot of raw skill.
When I watch, it seems like he moves really well, moves the puck well for being [6'7"] at that age." Meanwhile, Armstrong mentioned that while Sokolovskii has shown solid defensive capabilities, further development in his offensive game is anticipated as he gains more experience, particularly next season with the London Knights.
He emphasized that as Sokolovskii becomes more confident, he could start contributing offensively, which will complement his formidable defensive presence. The Flyers are optimistic about Sokolovskii's future contributions, with many believing he could become a significant asset for the team down the line.
