Matvei Michkov's former agent, Sergei Fedotov, discussed the relationship between Michkov and Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet during a recent appearance on a Russian sports talk show. Fedotov praised Tocchet for his role in the playoffs, particularly highlighting Michkov's assist on the series-winning goal that advanced the Flyers past the Pittsburgh Penguins.
However, he also expressed concern over Tocchet's decision to limit Michkov's ice time, noting that Michkov's potential can be unlocked with the right management approach. Fedotov emphasized the necessity of understanding Michkov's psychological needs, likening him to a Rubik's cube that requires careful handling to maximize his performance.
He dismissed rumors regarding Michkov's absence from the team plane as unfounded. Looking ahead, Fedotov stated that Michkov must have a significant summer and enter training camp ready to impress Tocchet, aiming for a more prominent role in the lineup.
The Flyers are set to face the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where Michkov will have an opportunity to build on his recent performances.
