As the NHL trade deadline approaches, the Philadelphia Flyers are weighing their options regarding defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. The Flyers currently sit at a 27-21-11 record, holding 65 points, and face a six-point gap to reach a playoff spot.

With two games left before the March 6 deadline, Flyers general manager Danny Briere must decide whether to trade Ristolainen or keep him to aid a playoff push. Ristolainen's stock is reportedly at an all-time high after his strong performance at the Olympics, where he helped Finland secure a bronze medal.

His $5.1 million cap hit for this year and next is considered manageable, and teams are reportedly interested in acquiring him. However, the recent trade of Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Edmonton Oilers may have diminished the market for Ristolainen, as the Oilers were seen as a potential suitor.

The Flyers had been asking for a first-round pick or an equivalent player in return for Ristolainen, and with the Oilers opting for Murphy, their options may be limited. According to Broad Street Hockey, the Flyers could still hold onto Ristolainen, aiming for a better return later, or they may choose to keep him for additional depth as they look to make a playoff run.

Managing the balance between immediate needs and future prospects is critical for Briere, especially with young players like Oliver Bonk and Porter Martone emerging as potential contributors in the near future.

As the deadline nears, the Flyers face a pivotal moment in their rebuilding strategy.
