The Philadelphia Flyers' 2026 draft class is generating significant excitement, particularly with the selections of Maksim Sokolovskii and Marek Sklenicka. According to The Hockey Writers, Sokolovskii, the Flyers' first-round pick, stands at 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, showcasing physicality and skating ability, although he will need to refine his on-puck play.
Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr compared Sokolovskii to veteran defenseman Nikita Zadorov, highlighting his potential impact at the junior level and emphasizing the need for patience in his development.
Sklenicka, selected in the fourth round, had a solid season with a .902 save percentage in the WHL, and his performance at the World Junior Championships further solidified his value. Flahr noted the importance of developing these players through a college route to ensure they mature physically and mentally before entering the NHL.
The Flyers also added Brek Liske, a defenseman who impressed in the playoffs, and two goaltenders, Psohlavec and Sklenicka, to bolster their depth in net. Flahr expressed confidence in the Flyers' development staff to guide these prospects, indicating that this draft class could be a key factor in the team's future success.
