As the NHL regular season approaches its conclusion, the playoff race has intensified, particularly for wild-card positions in both the Eastern and Western Conferences. According to ESPN, the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets currently occupy the wild-card spots in the East with 90 and 87 points respectively.
They're closely pursued by the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings, each with 86 points. The Bruins face a crucial matchup against the Blue Jackets, providing both teams an opportunity to solidify their playoff positions.
In the Western Conference, the Nashville Predators hold the second wild-card spot with 77 points, while the Los Angeles Kings, Seattle Kraken, and Winnipeg Jets are in a tight race behind them. Projections from Stathletes suggest that the Kings might clinch the second wild-card position with 86.6 points, marginally ahead of Nashville's projected 85.3 points.
With only about 10 games left for most teams, every match is critical, shaping the playoff landscape as the April 16 deadline approaches. The playoff chances for teams like the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals remain slim but not impossible, making each game significant as they continue their fight for a postseason berth.
