As the NHL regular season nears its conclusion, the playoff picture is becoming increasingly competitive. The Minnesota Wild have officially secured their playoff spot after a decisive 5-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks, marking their return to the postseason for the first time since 2015.
Winger Ryan Hartman expressed satisfaction with the result, stating, 'We knew all we had to do was win a game and we're there.' In contrast, the defending champions, the Florida Panthers, have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention following a 9-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This marks a significant downturn for the Panthers, who have faced a myriad of injuries this season, including the absence of captain Aleksander Barkov, who suffered a knee injury early on. Panthers forward Sam Bennett acknowledged the team's struggles, saying, 'Obviously, no one's happy about the situation.' With the Panthers out, it will be the first time since 2022 that a team other than Florida represents the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Wild, buoyed by star winger Kirill Kaprizov's performance and a strong season from goaltender Filip Gustavsson, are eager to advance further in the playoffs this year after being eliminated in the first round last season.
