Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse has reportedly requested a trade, according to The Hockey News. Nurse has provided a list of three to five teams he would be willing to waive his no-movement clause for, as confirmed by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Potential trade destinations include the San Jose Sharks, who need to bolster their defense and have ample cap space; the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are in a transitional phase and could benefit from Nurse's experience; and the Philadelphia Flyers, who have expressed mutual interest in acquiring him.
However, Nurse's high cap hit of $9.25 million until 2029-30 and his recent performance decline present challenges for any trade. Meanwhile, coaching rumors have also heated up, particularly surrounding Mike Babcock.
The NHLPA expects a full investigation into Babcock before the Oilers can hire him, following his controversial resignation from the Columbus Blue Jackets last year amid allegations of privacy violations with players.
The Oilers are actively seeking a replacement for Kris Knoblauch and have consulted their core leadership group regarding Babcock's potential hiring. Babcock, who has a storied coaching history, remains a polarizing figure in the league.
