The nominees for the 2026 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy have been announced, highlighting players who exemplify perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication in the NHL. According to The Hockey News, each of the 32 teams' local chapters of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association nominates one player, with the top three finalists determined by votes.
This year, notable nominees include Washington Capitals' Alexander Ovechkin and Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, both recognized for their resilience over challenging seasons. For the New Jersey Devils, defenseman Brenden Dillon has been named the nominee, reflecting his comeback after undergoing artificial disc replacement surgery due to a neck injury sustained in the 2024 playoffs.
Dillon has played in every game this season, contributing significantly to his team. The winner of the Masterton Trophy will be announced later this spring, continuing the tradition of honoring players who overcome adversity in their careers.
