The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a third-round draft pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Woll, who is 27 years old, had a record of 15-16-7 with a 3.34 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage in 39 games this season. Meanwhile, Benoit, also 27, contributed significantly with 194 hits and 114 blocked shots during his season with the Leafs.

In return, Ersson, 26, posted a 14-11-5 record, a 3.12 GAA, and .870 save percentage over 33 games with the Flyers. This trade reflects the Leafs' effort to reshape their goaltending depth while the Flyers look to solidify their goaltending situation behind Dan Vladar.

Additionally, the NHL's long-standing broadcast partnership with CBC has officially ended, marking a major transition in how hockey is presented to Canadian audiences. CBC will no longer carry NHL games, transitioning to a new programming strategy that focuses on Olympic sports.

This change follows a 12-year partnership with Sportsnet and brings nostalgia as many Canadians recall the historical significance of CBC's role in broadcasting hockey. Furthermore, John Tortorella will not return as head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights after leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final.

Tortorella's contract expired after the season, and the Golden Knights are now evaluating their coaching staff for the next season. The offseason is also seeing teams like the Carolina Hurricanes and Golden Knights exploring potential trades and draft strategies as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft, with various roster adjustments anticipated for both teams.
