In a thrilling opening night of the NHL playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime, powered by Juraj Slafkovsky's remarkable hat trick and game-winning goal. According to Raw Charge, all of Slafkovsky's goals came on the power play, helping the Canadiens convert three out of five opportunities.
Despite a valiant effort from the Lightning, including two goals from Brandon Hagel, they suffered their tenth playoff loss in eleven home games and extended their streak to seven consecutive overtime losses.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres made headlines by rallying to defeat the Boston Bruins 4-3, scoring four unanswered goals in the third period. Boston Hockey Now reported that the Sabres' comeback was ignited by Tage Thompson's goal, marking their first playoff goal since 2011.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead but could not withstand the Sabres' momentum shift, which included goals from Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Dylan Cozens. Lastly, the Philadelphia Flyers shone in their playoff debut, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2.
With ten players making their playoff debuts, the Flyers showcased their young talent, with Jamie Drysdale scoring the opening goal, as detailed by Broad Street Hockey.
