The NHL free agency period has been bustling, highlighted by significant signings and ongoing discussions around remaining unrestricted free agents. The Edmonton Oilers have secured goaltender Frederik Andersen on a one-year, $2.75 million contract, which includes $1.8 million in performance bonuses.
Andersen, coming off a successful run with the Carolina Hurricanes, will compete for the starting position against Tristan Jarry and Devon Levi, with new coach Mike Babcock aiming to establish a reliable goalie tandem.
This signing continues the Oilers' quest for stability in net after Jarry's underwhelming performance last season. Meanwhile, teams like the Washington Capitals have bolstered their rosters too, signing Boone Jenner for four years at $5.75 million AAV, adding depth and leadership to their lineup.
The Red Wings have also made strides, signing Viktor Arvidsson for two years at $5 million annually, enhancing their offensive capabilities while addressing physicality concerns. As of now, several notable unrestricted free agents remain on the market, including Patrick Kane and Anthony Mantha, leaving teams looking to solidify their rosters with impactful additions.
With the salary cap rising to $104 million for the 2026-27 season, the free agency landscape remains dynamic, and teams will continue to explore options as the offseason progresses.
