As NHL free agency approaches, key players are facing uncertain futures due to trade discussions and decisions on restricted free agents. Notable trade rumors include Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski, who reportedly is not interested in signing a contract extension, prompting the team to gauge his trade value.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, teams like the Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, and Carolina Hurricanes have shown interest in Werenski, who still has two years remaining on his contract. Meanwhile, Kirill Marchenko also reportedly intends to move on from the Blue Jackets, though he hasn't requested a trade.
On the RFA front, the Boston Bruins issued qualifying offers to four players, including Luke Cavallin and Matt Poitras, while Jordan Harris and others will become unrestricted free agents. In Philadelphia, the Flyers qualified four RFAs including Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale but let six players go, including Phil Tomasino.
As the deadline for qualifying offers passed, the dynamics of RFAs and trades will shape the landscape of the upcoming free agency period.
