At the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, prospects Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg shared insights into their seasons and aspirations as they prepare for the upcoming NHL Draft. According to The Hockey News, McKenna, who previously dominated in the WHL, faced challenges transitioning to the NCAA with Penn State but concluded the season strong, finishing with 51 points.
Stenberg, meanwhile, had a noteworthy season in the Swedish League and showcased his skills at the world juniors, expressing a desire to play in North America next season. As the Toronto Maple Leafs hold the first overall pick, general manager John Chayka confirmed that McKenna is the favorite to be selected.
Chayka emphasized the importance of McKenna's character and personality, having conducted thorough due diligence following a past legal issue that was quickly resolved. The Leafs' strategy appears focused on securing a younger, dynamic core, and it would be surprising if they selected anyone other than McKenna at the draft, as stated by The Leafs Nation.
