Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning has won his second Vezina Trophy, awarded to the NHL's top goaltender, marking a significant achievement despite the team's playoff struggles. Vasilevskiy, who previously won the award in the 2018-19 season, led the league with 39 wins and finished second in goals against average at 2.31, showcasing his exceptional performance throughout the regular season.
This recognition comes as the Lightning, despite individual accolades including head coach Jon Cooper winning the Jack Adams Trophy, were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Montreal Canadiens, underscoring the team's need to focus on collective playoff success moving forward.
According to Raw Charge, Vasilevskiy received 17 of the 31 first-place votes, significantly outpacing second-place Ilya Sorokin. The Hockey News notes that while individual awards are commendable, they do not substitute for the ultimate goal of a Stanley Cup, and general manager Julien BriseBois will need to reassess the lineup to advance further in future playoffs.
